Analysis of The Lucky One

TEXT
Straight away we see the audience approval text to say that it is definitely suitable for the audience age given by the BBFC. 28 seconds in we see the production company logo, WARNER BROS. PICTURES and VILLAGE ROADSHOW PICTURES. The logos appear at a point of tension; an explosion has just gone of and the character has just fallen to the floor. Putting the logos after this gains the audiences attention makes them want to carry on watching to then find out what happens next. Towards the end of the trailer, we get the name of the production company again to state that it is them who created the film. Further on, we see the names of the main characters involved in the movie. This is a good way to promote the movies because it shows that well known actors/actresses are part of it so people can tell that it will be a good film. Finally we see the name of the movie. All text so far has been in the same font and size, however the title of the movie is shown in a bigger size to make it look like the most important part. Following the title, 'THIS SPRING' appears on screen to identify when the movie will be released. Finally we get the name of the directors, producers and executive producers as they are a big part of the movies as they are the ones who created it. Sometimes, if you know the name of the director, you know what kind of movies they make. This then enables the audience to realize if they would enjoy watching the movie.

SOUND

First of all we hear a voice over as a sound-bridge of the main male character; what he is saying links directly to what is going on in the scene. There is also a soft, melodic piece of background music as well that is playing as the voice over occurs. This music sets the mood as quite soft and innocent which then allows the dramatic scene of the explosion to look extra big. Once the helicopter sound starts to fade, a new background music starts with a powerful beat which has a link to the sound of the beat machines at hospitals. This makes the audience believe that something big is about to happen or that the main man is going to get hurt. Towards the middle of the trailer, the audience start to get the idea that this movie is a romance. The tone of the music becomes more romantic, happier and upbeat which links to the scenes of the couple laughing and kissing. When the scenes of struggle and tears occur between the couple, ,lyrics start in the music. These lyrics link with the emotions and desperate need for one another in the couple. These lyrics grab the audiences attention and allows them to link with the emotions being expressed at that point in the trailer.

EDITING

after each scene there is a fade transition to the next. This links with the genre of it being a romance film. Towards the end of the trailers, the transitions get a bit faster to add more tension to it. This lets the audience believe that there are gonna be struggles within the couples relationship. There is also jump cuts between the couple being romantic and then something getting in their way. This again proves that they are going to have to put up a fight to be together. This draws the audiences attention because it makes them connect with the characters and some people might understand the pain and effort that these characters are going through so can relate to it.

MISE-EN-SCENE

At the beginning, the main character is in an army uniform. This identifies him as quite a powerful, well built, healthy man which is the stereotypical male character. Also, we see the bad guy in a police uniform later on in the trailer which links with the idea that he also has a lot of power and can do a lot of damage and get away with it. Apart from that, the costume is quite casual throughout all characters. The facial expressions shown throughout the trailer prove that the film is going to go from happy laughter to sad tears to then anger and frustration. There are moments when the couple couldn't be happier with each other, however, there are parts where they are both in separate rooms and they are both expressing there anger and frustration towards one another. The lighting is either daylight or sunset/sunrise. This is a great way to encourage the idea of a romantic setting and the idea of feeling safe and happy.
