Next, a black screen with text appears stating the definition of the word dumb. There is a voice over saying the sentence. The voice over is in a posh and mature tone which links with the non-diegetic music that starts to play. The music is a ballroom music which makes the two characters look even dumber. the contrast between the footage and the music/voice over adds a comical value to the trailer.
There is also another black screen with the definition of stupid further on in the trailer with small clips from the film in between. These clips highlight the stupidity of the main characters and adds a little laughter for the audience without revealing any of of the overly funny scenarios. By doing this, they are drawing attention from the audience and making them want to find out how stupid these characters actually get.
At 1:12, the text, Jim Carrey appears on screen to let the audience know who plays the characters in the film. Also, by doing this, the audience can tell whether the film includes anyone well known. The audience could then find out if they have done any good films in the past. Anyone who knows Jim Carrey knows he has done films such as Grinch, Truman Show, Mask, Bruce Almighty and many more. By having a character like him will definitely boost the audiences confidence in the film.
Furthermore, at 1:30 they have Jeff Daniels appear. He also portrays the same reaction from the audience as Jim Carey would due to his appearance in films such as The Divergent Series, The Martian and Steve Jobs.
When the text appears, it's in a blue, bold text in capitals. It also appears on the screen with an animation. This gives the affect of quite a childlike manner which links to the concept of the two characters acting quite childish. It also adds interest for the audience because its presented in a more entertaining way. This effect is repeated when the title Dumber and Dumber enters. By having the title near the end of the trailer makes the audience have to wait to find out what it's called instead of it being at the beginning and the audience turning it off once they find out.

At one point, the setting is at a ski resort of some sort and one of the characters is up on the cart. we get a long shot of the man sitting on the moving on the cart with his tongue stuck to the pole. He is wearing a bright orange ski suit which makes him really stand out from the crowd and by his facial expression, he seems very scared of the fact that he is stuck on the cart and can't get himself down. This is a comedy scene for the audience and expresses the comedy value of the film.
